“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17.
A person may not be able to tell the exact time or place, or trace all the chain of circumstances in the process of conversion; but this does not prove him to be unconverted. Christ said to Nicodemus, “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is everyone that is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8. Like the wind, which is invisible, yet the effects of which are plainly seen and felt, is the Spirit of God in its work upon the human heart. That regenerating power, which no human eye can see, begets a new life in the soul; it creates a new being in the image of God. While the work of the Spirit is silent and imperceptible, its effects are manifest. If the heart has been renewed by the Spirit of God, the life will bear witness to the fact. While we cannot do anything to change our hearts or to bring ourselves into harmony with God; while we must not trust at all to ourselves or our good works, our lives will reveal whether the grace of God is dwelling within us. A change will be seen in the character, the habits, the pursuits. The contrast will be clear and decided between what they have been and what they are. The character is revealed, not by occasional good deeds and occasional misdeeds, but by the tendency of the habitual words and acts.
It is true that there may be an outward correctness of deportment without the renewing power of Christ. The love of influence and the desire for the esteem of others may produce a well-ordered life. Self-respect may lead us to avoid the appearance of evil. A selfish heart may perform generous actions. By what means, then, shall we determine whose side we are on?
Who has the heart? With whom are our thoughts? Of whom do we love to converse? Who has our warmest affections and our best energies? If we are Christ's, our thoughts are with Him, and our sweetest thoughts are of Him. All we have and are is consecrated to Him. We long to bear His image, breathe His spirit, do His will, and please Him in all things.
Those who become new creatures in Christ Jesus will bring forth the fruits of the Spirit, “love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.” Galatians 5:22, 23. They will no longer fashion themselves according to the former lusts, but by the faith of the Son of God they will follow in His steps, reflect His character, and purify themselves even as He is pure. The things they once hated they now love, and the things they once loved they hate. The proud and self-assertive become meek and lowly in heart. The vain and supercilious become serious and unobtrusive. The drunken become sober, and the profligate pure. The vain customs and fashions of the world are laid aside. Christians will seek not the “outward adorning,” but “the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit.” 1 Peter 3:3, 4.
There is no evidence of genuine repentance unless it works reformation. If he restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, confess his sins, and love God and his fellow men, the sinner may be sure that he has passed from death unto life.
When, as erring, sinful beings, we come to Christ and become partakers of His pardoning grace, love springs up in the heart. Every burden is light, for the yoke that Christ imposes is easy. Duty becomes a delight, and sacrifice a pleasure. The path that before seemed shrouded in darkness, becomes bright with beams from the Sun of Righteousness.
The loveliness of the character of Christ will be seen in His followers. It was His delight to do the will of God. Love to God, zeal for His glory, was the controlling power in our Saviour's life. Love beautified and ennobled all His actions. Love is of God. The unconsecrated heart cannot originate or produce it. It is found only in the heart where Jesus reigns. “We love, because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19, R.V. In the heart renewed by divine grace, love is the principle of action. It modifies the character, governs the impulses, controls the passions, subdues enmity, and ennobles the affections. This love, cherished in the soul, sweetens the life and sheds a refining influence on all around.
There are two errors against which the children of God—particularly those who have just come to trust in His grace—especially need to guard. The first, already dwelt upon, is that of looking to their own works, trusting to anything they can do, to bring themselves into harmony with God. He who is trying to become holy by his own works in keeping the law, is attempting an impossibility. All that man can do without Christ is polluted with selfishness and sin. It is the grace of Christ alone, through faith, that can make us holy.
The opposite and no less dangerous error is that belief in Christ releases men from keeping the law of God; that since by faith alone we become partakers of the grace of Christ, our works have nothing to do with our redemption.
But notice here that obedience is not a mere outward compliance, but the service of love. The law of God is an expression of His very nature; it is an embodiment of the great principle of love, and hence is the foundation of His government in heaven and earth. If our hearts are renewed in the likeness of God, if the divine love is implanted in the soul, will not the law of God be carried out in the life? When the principle of love is implanted in the heart, when man is renewed after the image of Him that created him, the new-covenant promise is fulfilled, “I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them.” Hebrews 10:16. And if the law is written in the heart, will it not shape the life? Obedience—the service and allegiance of love—is the true sign of discipleship. Thus the Scripture says, “This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.” “He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” 1 John 5:3; 2:4. Instead of releasing man from obedience, it is faith, and faith only, that makes us partakers of the grace of Christ, which enables us to render obedience.
We do not earn salvation by our obedience; for salvation is the free gift of God, to be received by faith. But obedience is the fruit of faith. “Ye know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him.” 1 John 3:5, 6. Here is the true test. If we abide in Christ, if the love of God dwells in us, our feelings, our thoughts, our purposes, our actions, will be in harmony with the will of God as expressed in the precepts of His holy law. “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.” 1 John 3:7. Righteousness is defined by the standard of God's holy law, as expressed in the ten precepts given on Sinai.
That so-called faith in Christ which professes to release men from the obligation of obedience to God, is not faith, but presumption. “By grace are ye saved through faith.” But “faith, if it hath not works, is dead.” Ephesians 2:8; James 2:17. Jesus said of Himself before He came to earth, “I delight to do Thy will, O My God: yea, Thy law is within My heart.” Psalm 40:8. And just before He ascended again to heaven He declared, “I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.” John 15:10. The Scripture says, “Hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.... He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk even as He walked.” 1 John 2:3-6. “Because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps.” 1 Peter 2:21.
The condition of eternal life is now just what it always has been,—just what it was in Paradise before the fall of our first parents,—perfect obedience to the law of God, perfect righteousness. If eternal life were granted on any condition short of this, then the happiness of the whole universe would be imperiled. The way would be open for sin, with all its train of woe and misery, to be immortalized.
It was possible for Adam, before the fall, to form a righteous character by obedience to God's law. But he failed to do this, and because of his sin our natures are fallen and we cannot make ourselves righteous. Since we are sinful, unholy, we cannot perfectly obey the holy law. We have no righteousness of our own with which to meet the claims of the law of God. But Christ has made a way of escape for us. He lived on earth amid trials and temptations such as we have to meet. He lived a sinless life. He died for us, and now He offers to take our sins and give us His righteousness. If you give yourself to Him, and accept Him as your Saviour, then, sinful as your life may have been, for His sake you are accounted righteous. Christ's character stands in place of your character, and you are accepted before God just as if you had not sinned.
More than this, Christ changes the heart. He abides in your heart by faith. You are to maintain this connection with Christ by faith and the continual surrender of your will to Him; and so long as you do this, He will work in you to will and to do according to His good pleasure. So you may say, “The life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20. So Jesus said to His disciples, “It is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.” Matthew 10:20. Then with Christ working in you, you will manifest the same spirit and do the same good works—works of righteousness, obedience.
So we have nothing in ourselves of which to boast. We have no ground for self-exaltation. Our only ground of hope is in the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and in that wrought by His Spirit working in and through us.
When we speak of faith, there is a distinction that should be borne in mind. There is a kind of belief that is wholly distinct from faith. The existence and power of God, the truth of His word, are facts that even Satan and his hosts cannot at heart deny. The Bible says that “the devils also believe, and tremble;” but this is not faith. James 2:19. Where there is not only a belief in God's word, but a submission of the will to Him; where the heart is yielded to Him, the affections fixed upon Him, there is faith—faith that works by love and purifies the soul. Through this faith the heart is renewed in the image of God. And the heart that in its unrenewed state is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be, now delights in its holy precepts, exclaiming with the psalmist, “O how love I Thy law! it is my meditation all the day.” Psalm 119:97. And the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in us, “who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1.
There are those who have known the pardoning love of Christ and who really desire to be children of God, yet they realize that their character is imperfect, their life faulty, and they are ready to doubt whether their hearts have been renewed by the Holy Spirit. To such I would say, Do not draw back in despair. We shall often have to bow down and weep at the feet of Jesus because of our shortcomings and mistakes, but we are not to be discouraged. Even if we are overcome by the enemy, we are not cast off, not forsaken and rejected of God. No; Christ is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Said the beloved John, “These things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 John 2:1. And do not forget the words of Christ, “The Father Himself loveth you.” John 16:27. He desires to restore you to Himself, to see His own purity and holiness reflected in you. And if you will but yield yourself to Him, He that hath begun a good work in you will carry it forward to the day of Jesus Christ. Pray more fervently; believe more fully. As we come to distrust our own power, let us trust the power of our Redeemer, and we shall praise Him who is the health of our countenance.
The closer you come to Jesus, the more faulty you will appear in your own eyes; for your vision will be clearer, and your imperfections will be seen in broad and distinct contrast to His perfect nature. This is evidence that Satan's delusions have lost their power; that the vivifying influence of the Spirit of God is arousing you.
No deep-seated love for Jesus can dwell in the heart that does not realize its own sinfulness. The soul that is transformed by the grace of Christ will admire His divine character; but if we do not see our own moral deformity, it is unmistakable evidence that we have not had a view of the beauty and excellence of Christ.
The less we see to esteem in ourselves, the more we shall see to esteem in the infinite purity and loveliness of our Saviour. A view of our sinfulness drives us to Him who can pardon; and when the soul, realizing its helplessness, reaches out after Christ, He will reveal Himself in power. The more our sense of need drives us to Him and to the word of God, the more exalted views we shall have of His character, and the more fully we shall reflect His image.

The Bible as Prophecy
The Bible is unique among other known religious works because up to 30 percent of its content comprises of prophecies and prophetic literature. The integration of prophecy and its fulfillment in time is central to the biblical worldview, for the God who acts in history also knows the future and has revealed it to His prophets (Amos 3:7). The Bible is not only the living Word, or the historical Word—it is the prophetic Word.
How do the following texts reveal the details of the coming Messiah?
Gen. 49:8-12
Ps. 22:12-18
Isa. 53:3-7
Dan. 9:24-27
Mic. 5:2
Mal. 3:1
Zech. 9:9
There are at least 65 direct, Messianic predictions in the Old Testament, many more if we add typology, as well (typology is the study of how Old Testament rituals, such as the sacrifices, were mini-prophecies of Jesus). These prophecies relate to such specific details as “a sceptre shall not depart from Judah” (Gen. 49:10); that He would be born in Bethlehem in Judah (Mic. 5:2); that He would be “despised and rejected of men”; beaten, falsely accused, yet not open His mouth to defend Himself (Isa. 53:3-7); that His hands and feet would be pierced; and that they would divide His clothes among them (Ps. 22:12-18).
The fact that these prophecies of the Old Testament were fulfilled with such precision in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus testifies to their divine inspiration and revelation. It also indicates that Jesus was who He claimed and others claimed Him to be. Jesus followed the prophets of old in predicting His death and resurrection (Luke 9:21, 22; Matt. 17:22, 23), the fall of Jerusalem (Matt. 24:1, 2), and His second coming (John 14:1-3). Thus, the Incarnation, death, and Resurrection are predicted by the Bible, and their fulfillment ensures its reliability.

Christ Triumphant: Vice Does Not Triumph Over Virtue, March 31
And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison.... But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. Genesis 39:20, 21.
Wherever you may be placed, you must be fortified by firm principle. Enter life determined by the help of God to cleave close to whatsoever things are honest, true, lovely, and of good report. The fear of God, united with the love of that which is noble, pure, and elevating, will guard you from a dishonest action.... How pleasant, how satisfactory, will be the recollection all through life that though exposed to many and fierce temptations, your hands were unstained by dishonesty, and your heart undefiled by cherishing temptation....
What a lesson for all youth we have in the history of Joseph. Here moral integrity was preserved under the strongest temptations. How fierce and seductive was the assault upon his virtue! Coming from such a source and in such a form, it was the most likely to corrupt a youthful mind. Joseph was saved by his religious principles, which led him promptly and firmly to resist the device of Satan. His tempter, defeated in her purpose, wickedly sought to ruin the youth whose virtues she could not corrupt, and accused Joseph of the very crime he would not commit.... God made the imprisonment of this faithful youth the means of his elevation. Had it not been for this wicked act of Potiphar's wife, Joseph would never have become prime minister of Egypt.
Although vice seemed to triumph while virtue was trampled in the dust, Joseph did not make his lot worse by repining. He possessed genuine religion.... God was teaching Joseph important lessons. He was preparing him for a position of trust, honor, and usefulness. Joseph learned to govern by first learning to obey. He humbled himself, and God exalted him. The religion of the Bible never degrades the receiver; on the contrary, it elevates and ennobles all who accept and obey its teachings. The fear of God is a strong defense for the youth. With this shield they may pass through the most corrupting scenes uncontaminated.
My dear son [Edson], do not get above the simplicity of a humble Christian life. Let the character of Joseph be your character; let his strength to resist temptation be your strength. Your efforts will be successful if you make them in the strength of God. Jesus is a present help. May the blessing of Jesus ever rest upon you is the prayer of your mother.—Letter 20, 1868.
Homeward Bound: Conformed to God’s Will, March 31
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son.—Romans 8:29.
Many commit the error of trying to define minutely the fine points of distinction between justification and sanctification. Into the definitions of these two terms they often bring their own ideas and speculations. Why try to be more minute than is Inspiration on the vital question of righteousness by faith? Why try to work out every minute point, as if the salvation of the soul depended upon all having exactly your understanding of this matter? All cannot see in the same line of vision. You are in danger of making a world of an atom, and an atom of a world.
As penitent sinners, contrite before God, discern Christ’s atonement in their behalf, and accept this atonement as their only hope in this life and the future life, their sins are pardoned. This is justification by faith. Every believing soul is to conform his or her will entirely to God’s will, and keep in a state of repentance and contrition, exercising faith in the atoning merits of the Redeemer, and advancing from strength to strength, from glory to glory.
Pardon and justification are one and the same thing. . . .

Justification is the opposite of condemnation. God’s boundless mercy is exercised toward those who are wholly undeserving. He forgives transgressions and sins for the sake of Jesus, who has become the propitiation for our sins. Through faith in Christ the guilty transgressor is brought into favor with God and into the strong hope of life eternal.
David was pardoned of his transgression because he humbled his heart before God in repentance and contrition of soul and believed that God’s promise to forgive would be fulfilled. He confessed his sin, repented, and was reconverted. In the rapture of the assurance of forgiveness he exclaimed, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.” The blessing comes because of pardon; pardon comes through faith that the sin, confessed and repented of, is borne by the great Sin-bearer. Thus from Christ cometh all our blessings. His death is an atoning sacrifice for our sins. He is the great medium through whom we receive the mercy and favor of God. He, then, is indeed the Originator, the Author, as well as the Finisher, of our faith.—Manuscript Releases, vol. 9, 300-302.

Mari kita baca tulisan Daud di dalam Mazmur 37:25. Daud berkata, *_"Dahulu aku muda, sekarang telah menjadi tua, tetapi tidak pernah kulihat orang benar ditinggalkan, atau anak cucunya meminta-minta roti."_* (Mazmur 37:25)
Di ayat ini *Daud bersaksi tentang kesetiaan komitmen Tuhan atas hidupnya* dan melalui ayat ini Tuhan mengajarkan keteladanan untuk *belajar berkomiten dengan setia.*
Apa itu komitmen?
Menurut KBBi, *Komitmen adalah perjanjian (keterikatan).*
Berbicara mengenai janji, *manusia sering ingkar janji bahkan kita juga seringkali menyesal saat menolong orang.*
Lalu *bagaimana dengan Tuhan?*
*_"Allah bukanlah manusia, sehingga Ia berdusta bukan anak manusia, sehingga Ia menyesal. Masakan Ia berfirman dan tidak melakukannya, atau berbicara dan tidak menepatinya?"_* (Bilangan 23:19)
*Tuhan tidak akan ingkar janji; kesetiaan-Nya untuk selama-lamanya.* Tuhan kita bukan seorang pendusta, *Dia pasti menepati semua janji-Nya.*
Jadi apa yang kita harus lakukan saat ini di tengah-tengah kekhawatiran hidup?
Peganglah firman Tuhan dengan sungguh-sungguh, karena ada satu hal yang Tuhan tidak bisa lakukan yaitu mengingkari janji-Nya.
Sebagai penutup, mari kita ingat!
Jika dahulu Tuhan kita yang hebat pernah menolong:

Banyak yang melakukan kesalahan dengan mencoba mendefinisikan dengan tepat titik-titik halus perbedaan antara pembenaran dan penyucian. Ke dalam definisi kedua istilah ini kebanyakan orang sering membawa ide dan spekulasi mereka sendiri. Mengapa mencoba menjadi lebih cepat daripada inspirasi tentang pertanyaan vital tentang kebenaran oleh iman? Mengapa mencoba untuk bekerja setiap menit, seolah keselamatan jiwa bergantung pada semua pemahaman Anda tentang hal ini? Semua tidak bisa melihat di garis visi yang sama. Anda berada dalam bahaya membuat dunia dari atom, dan atom dari dunia.
Sebagai orang berdosa yang bertobat, menyesal di hadapan Allah, memahami pendamaian Kristus untuk mereka, dan menerima penebusan ini sebagai satu-satunya harapan mereka dalam kehidupan ini dan kehidupan di masa depan, dosa-dosa mereka diampuni. *Ini adalah pembenaran oleh iman. Setiap jiwa yang percaya harus menyesuaikan kehendaknya sepenuhnya kepada kehendak Allah, dan tetap dalam keadaan pertobatan dan penyesalan, menjalankan iman pada jasa pendamaian Penebus, dan maju dari kekuatan ke kekuatan, dari kemuliaan ke kemuliaan.*
Pengampunan dan pembenaran adalah satu dan hal yang sama. Pembenaran adalah kebalikan dari penghukuman. *Rahmat Allah yang tidak terbatas itu diberikan kepada mereka yang sepenuhnya tidak layak.* Ia mengampuni pelanggaran-pelanggaran dan dosa-dosa oleh karena jasa Kristus, yang telah menjadi pendamaian bagi dosa-dosa kita. *Melalui iman dalam Kristus kesalahan pelanggar yang bersalah itu dibawa kepada kemurahan Allah dan kepada harapan yang kuat tentang hidup yang kekal.*
Daud diampuni dari pelanggarannya karena ia merendahkan hati di hadapan Allah dalam pertobatan dan penyesalan jiwa serta percaya bahwa janji pengampunan Allah akan digenapi. Ia mengakui dosanya, bertobat dan ditobatkan kembali. Dalam kebahagiaan jaminan pengampunan ia berseru, _“Berbahagialah orang yang diampuni pelanggarannya, yang dosanya ditutupi! Berbahagialah manusia, yang kesalahannya tidak diperhitungkan Tuhan, dan yang tidak berjiwa penipu.”_

Steps to Christ: Chapter 6—Faith and Acceptance (Bab 6—Iman Dan Penerimaan)
As your conscience has been quickened by the Holy Spirit, you have seen something of the evil of sin, of its power, its guilt, its woe; and you look upon it with abhorrence. You feel that sin has separated you from God, that you are in bondage to the power of evil. The more you struggle to escape, the more you realize your helplessness. Your motives are impure; your heart is unclean. You see that your life has been filled with selfishness and sin. You long to be forgiven, to be cleansed, to be set free. Harmony with God, likeness to Him—what can you do to obtain it?
It is peace that you need—Heaven's forgiveness and peace and love in the soul. Money cannot buy it, intellect cannot procure it, wisdom cannot attain to it; you can never hope, by your own efforts, to secure it. But God offers it to you as a gift, “without money and without price.” Isaiah 55:1. It is yours if you will but reach out your hand and grasp it. The Lord says, “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18. “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.” Ezekiel 36:26.
You have confessed your sins, and in heart put them away. You have resolved to give yourself to God. Now go to Him, and ask that He will wash away your sins and give you a new heart. Then believe that He does this because He has promised. This is the lesson which Jesus taught while He was on earth, that the gift which God promises us, we must believe we do receive, and it is ours. Jesus healed the people of their diseases when they had faith in His power; He helped them in the things which they could see, thus inspiring them with confidence in Him concerning things which they could not see—leading them to believe in His power to forgive sins. This He plainly stated in the healing of the man sick with palsy: “That ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith He to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.” Matthew 9:6. So also John the evangelist says, speaking of the miracles of Christ, “These are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.” John 20:31.
From the simple Bible account of how Jesus healed the sick, we may learn something about how to believe in Him for the forgiveness of sins. Let us turn to the story of the paralytic at Bethesda. The poor sufferer was helpless; he had not used his limbs for thirty-eight years. Yet Jesus bade him, “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.” The sick man might have said, “Lord, if Thou wilt make me whole, I will obey Thy word.” But, no, he believed Christ's word, believed that he was made whole, and he made the effort at once; he willed to walk, and he did walk. He acted on the word of Christ, and God gave the power. He was made whole.
In like manner you are a sinner. You cannot atone for your past sins; you cannot change your heart and make yourself holy. But God promises to do all this for you through Christ. You believe that promise. You confess your sins and give yourself to God. You will to serve Him. Just as surely as you do this, God will fulfill His word to you. If you believe the promise,—believe that you are forgiven and cleansed,—God supplies the fact; you are made whole, just as Christ gave the paralytic power to walk when the man believed that he was healed. It is so if you believe it.
Do not wait to feel that you are made whole, but say, “I believe it; it is so, not because I feel it, but because God has promised.”
Jesus says, “What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” Mark 11:24. There is a condition to this promise—that we pray according to the will of God. But it is the will of God to cleanse us from sin, to make us His children, and to enable us to live a holy life. So we may ask for these blessings, and believe that we receive them, and thank God that we have received them. It is our privilege to go to Jesus and be cleansed, and to stand before the law without shame or remorse. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1.
Henceforth you are not your own; you are bought with a price. “Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold; ... but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” 1 Peter 1:18, 19. Through this simple act of believing God, the Holy Spirit has begotten a new life in your heart. You are as a child born into the family of God, and He loves you as He loves His Son.
Now that you have given yourself to Jesus, do not draw back, do not take yourself away from Him, but day by day say, “I am Christ's; I have given myself to Him;” and ask Him to give you His Spirit and keep you by His grace. As it is by giving yourself to God, and believing Him, that you become His child, so you are to live in Him. The apostle says, “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him.” Colossians 2:6.
Some seem to feel that they must be on probation, and must prove to the Lord that they are reformed, before they can claim His blessing. But they may claim the blessing of God even now. They must have His grace, the Spirit of Christ, to help their infirmities, or they cannot resist evil. Jesus loves to have us come to Him just as we are, sinful, helpless, dependent. We may come with all our weakness, our folly, our sinfulness, and fall at His feet in penitence. It is His glory to encircle us in the arms of His love and to bind up our wounds, to cleanse us from all impurity.
Here is where thousands fail; they do not believe that Jesus pardons them personally, individually. They do not take God at His word. It is the privilege of all who comply with the conditions to know for themselves that pardon is freely extended for every sin. Put away the suspicion that God's promises are not meant for you. They are for every repentant transgressor. Strength and grace have been provided through Christ to be brought by ministering angels to every believing soul. None are so sinful that they cannot find strength, purity, and righteousness in Jesus, who died for them. He is waiting to strip them of their garments stained and polluted with sin, and to put upon them the white robes of righteousness; He bids them live and not die.
God does not deal with us as finite men deal with one another. His thoughts are thoughts of mercy, love, and tenderest compassion. He says, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” “I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins.” Isaiah 55:7; 44:22.
“I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.” Ezekiel 18:32. Satan is ready to steal away the blessed assurances of God. He desires to take every glimmer of hope and every ray of light from the soul; but you must not permit him to do this. Do not give ear to the tempter, but say, “Jesus has died that I might live. He loves me, and wills not that I should perish. I have a compassionate heavenly Father; and although I have abused His love, though the blessings He has given me have been squandered, I will arise, and go to my Father, and say, ‘I have sinned against heaven, and before Thee, and am no more worthy to be called Thy son: make me as one of Thy hired servants.’” The parable tells you how the wanderer will be received: “When he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.” Luke 15:18-20.
But even this parable, tender and touching as it is, comes short of expressing the infinite compassion of the heavenly Father. The Lord declares by His prophet, “I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee.” Jeremiah 31:3. While the sinner is yet far from the Father's house, wasting his substance in a strange country, the Father's heart is yearning over him; and every longing awakened in the soul to return to God is but the tender pleading of His Spirit, wooing, entreating, drawing the wanderer to his Father's heart of love.
With the rich promises of the Bible before you, can you give place to doubt? Can you believe that when the poor sinner longs to return, longs to forsake his sins, the Lord sternly withholds him from coming to His feet in repentance? Away with such thoughts! Nothing can hurt your own soul more than to entertain such a conception of our heavenly Father. He hates sin, but He loves the sinner, and He gave Himself in the person of Christ, that all who would might be saved and have eternal blessedness in the kingdom of glory. What stronger or more tender language could have been employed than He has chosen in which to express His love toward us? He declares, “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.” Isaiah 49:15.
Look up, you that are doubting and trembling; for Jesus lives to make intercession for us. Thank God for the gift of His dear Son and pray that He may not have died for you in vain. The Spirit invites you today. Come with your whole heart to Jesus, and you may claim His blessing.
As you read the promises, remember they are the expression of unutterable love and pity. The great heart of Infinite Love is drawn toward the sinner with boundless compassion. “We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” Ephesians 1:7. Yes, only believe that God is your helper. He wants to restore His moral image in man. As you draw near to Him with confession and repentance, He will draw near to you with mercy and forgiveness.
JIKA hati-nuranimu sudah digerakkan oleh Roh Kudus, engkau telah melihat sesuatu dari hal jahatnya dosa itu, tentang kuasanya, kesalahan-kesalahan itu, dan celakanya; maka engkau akan melihat dosa itu dengan kebencian. Engkau merasakan bahwa dosa itu telah memisahkan engkau dari Tuhan, bahwa engkau berada di dalam kungkungan kuasa jahat. Semakin berusaha berjuang melepaskan diri daripadanya, semakin engkau sadari kelemahanmu. Motifmu tidak suci, hatimu kotor. Engkau lihat bahwa kehidupanmu telah dipenuhi dengan dosa dan rasa mementingkan diri sendiri. Engkau rindu diampuni, dibersihkan, dan dilepaskan. Rukun dengan Allah, menjadi seperti Dia — apakah yang dapat engkau lakukan untuk memperolehnya?
2 Yang engkau perlukan ialah damai — Keampunan dari sorga dan damai serta kasih di dalam jiwa. Uang tidak dapat membelinya, intelek juga tidak dapat memperolehnya, kebijaksanaan tidak dapat mencapainya; engkau tidak akan pernah memperolehnya dengan usaha-usahamu sendiri. Tetapi Tuhan Allah memberikan kepadamu sebagai satu pemberian, “dan kamu yang tiada beruang, marilah.’’Yesaya 55:1. Engkau akan memilikinya hanya dengan mengulurkan tanganmu dan menerimanya. Tuhan berkata: “Jikalau segala dosamu bagaikan warna kirmizi sekalipun, niscaya ia itu akan menjadi putih seperti salju; jikalau ia itu merah padma sekalipun, niscaya ia itu akan menjadi putih seperti bulu kambing domba. ” Yesaya 1; 18. “Dan Aku akan mengaruniakan kepadamu hati yang baharu, dan roh yang baharupun akan kukarunia- kan di dalam batinmu. ” Yeheskiel 36:26.
3 Engkau sudah mengakui dosa-dosamu dan membuangkannya jauh- jauh dari dalam hatimu. Engkau telah bertekad memasrahkan dirimu sendiri kepada Allah. Sekarang pergilah padaNya dan pinta supaya Dia mau membasuh semua dosa-dosamu serta memberi hati yang baru bagimu. Dan yakin bahwa Dia melakukan ini karena Dia telah menjanjikannya. Inilah pelajaran yang telah diajarkan Yesus ketika Dia masih berada di atas dunia ini, bahwa pemberian yang dijanjikan Allah kepada kita, haruslah kita percayai betul- betul kita terima, maka itupun menjadi milik kita. Yesus menyembuhkan penyakit-penyakit orang-banyak apabila mereka mempunyai iman di dalam kuasaNya, dibantuNya mereka di dalam perkara-perkara yang dapat dilihat mereka, dengan demikian memberi inspirasi kepada mereka yakin di dalam Dia sehubungan dengan perkara-perkara yang tidak dapat dilihat mereka — menuntun mereka supaya percaya di dalam kuasaNya mengampuni dosa-dosa. Hal ini sangat jelas dikatakanNya waktu menyembuhkan orang yang sakit lumpuh: “Tetapi supaya kamu mengetahui bahwa Anak-manusia di dalam dunia ini berkuasa akan mengampuni dosa (maka katanya kepada orang yang sakit tepok itu:) “Bangunlah engkau, angkat tempat tidurmu, pulanglah keru- mahmu. ’’Matius 9:6. Oleh karena itulah Yahya pengabar injil itu berkata, mengenai mujizat-mujizat yang diperbuat Yesus, “Sekalian tanda ini sudah disuratkan, supaya kamu yakin, bahwa Yesus itulah Kristus, yaitu Anak Allah, dan supaya kamu yangyakin itu beroleh hidup dengan namaNya. ” Yah. 20:31.
4 Dari cerita Alkitab yang sederhana bagaimana Yesus telah menyembuhkan orang sakit, kita dapat mempelajari bagaimana percaya di dalam Dia supaya mendapat keampunan dosa-dosa. Marilah kita mengenang kisah orang yang sakit lumpuh yang di Betesda. Penderita yang hina itu tiada daya sama sekali, dia tidak dapat menggunakan kakinya selama tiga puluh tahun. Namun demikian Yesus menyuruh dia: “Bangkitlah engkau berdiri, angkatlah tikarmu dan berjalanlah. ’’Mungkin orang yang sakit itu berkata: “Tuhan, jika Tuhan menyembuhkan saya, maka saya akan menurut FirmanMu. ’’Tetapi bukan demikian, dia percaya dalam Sabda Tuhan Yesus, percaya bahwa dia telah disem-buhkan, dan dia berusaha, dia mau berjalan, dan dia berjalan. Dia melakukannya sesuai dengan firman Kristus, dan Tuhan memberi kuasa. Dia disembuhkan.
5 Demikian juga engkau seorang yang berdosa. Engkau tidak dapat menghapuskan dosa-dosa masa lalumu, engkau tidak dapat mengubah hatimu dan menyucikan dirimu sendiri. Tetapi Allah berjanji melakukan semua ini bagimu melalui Kristus. Engkau mempercayai janji itu. Engkau mengakui dosa-dosamu serta menyerahkan dirimu sendiri kepada Allah. Engkau mau melayani Dia. Hanyalah dengan melakukan hal seperti ini Allah dapat memenuhi firmanNya padamu. Jika engkau percaya pada janji itu — percaya bahwa engkau sudah diampuni dan disucikan — Allah mengwujudkannya, engkau akan disempurnakan sebagaimana Kristus telah memberi kuasa berjalan bagi orang yang lumpuh ketika dia percaya bahwa dia sudah disembuhkan. Demikianlah adanya jika engkau mempercayainya.
6 Jangan tunggu merasa dirimu sudah sempurna, tetapi katakanlah: “Saya mempercayainya, demikianlah adanya, bukan karena saya merasa demikian, tetapi karena Allah telah menjanjikannya. ”
7 Kata Yesus: “Barang apa yang kamu pohonkan dan pinta, jikalau kamu yakin seolah-olah sudah kamu terima, niscaya kamu akan beroleh.” Markus 11:24. Ada syarat atas janji ini — supaya kita dapat mendoa sesuai dengan kehendak Allah. Bahkan kehendak Allah ialah membersihkan kita dari dosa, membuat kita menjadi anak-anakNya, serta menyanggupkan kita supaya mendapat satu kehidupan yang suci. Oleh karena itu kita harus memohon berkat-berkat ini serta percaya bahwa kita menerimanya, lalu mengucap syu- kur kepada Tuhan karena kita telah menerimanya. Kita mempunyai hak datang kepada Kristus supaya disucikan, dan berdiri dihadapan hukum tanpa rasa malu atau sesal. “Maka oleh sebab itu sekarang tiadalah lagi hukuman ke atas orang yang di dalam Kristus Yesus, karena hukum Roh yang mengaruniakan hidup di dalam Kristus Yesus sudah memerdekakan aku daripada hukum dosa dan maut itu. ”Rum 8:1, 2.
8 Mulai saat itu engkau bukan lagi milikmu sendiri, engkau telah dibeli dengan harga tunai. “Bahwa kamu sudah ditebus daripada kehidupanmu yang sia-sia . . . bukan dengan barang yang akan binasa, seumpama dengan perak atau mas, melainkan dengan darah yang mulia, yang seperti darah anak domba yang tiada bercela dan tiada bercacat, yaitu darah Kristus.” 1 Pet. 1:18, 19. Dengan mempercayai Allah secara sesederhana ini, Roh Kudus telah melahirkan satu hidup baru di dalam hatimu. Sebagai seorang kanak-kanak engkau lahir di dalam keluarga Allah, dan Dia mengasihi engkau sebagaimana Dia mengasihi AnakNya.
9 Sekarang setelah engkau menyerahkan dirimu sendiri kepada Tuhan Yesus, janganlah undur, janganlah menjauh daripadaNya, dari hari demi hari berkata: “Akulah milik Kristus, telah kuserahkan diriku-sendiri padaNya ’’serta memohon padaNya supaya memberi Roh Kudus padamu serta memelihara engkau dengan karuniaNya. Dengan menyerahkan dirimu kepada Allah, percaya di dalam Dia, engkau menjadi anakNya, oleh karena itu engkau sepatutnya hidup di dalam Dia. Seorang rasul berkata: “Sedang kamu sudah mengaku Kristus Yesus, Tuhan itu, maka berjalanlah menurut Dia.’’Kolose 2:6.
10 Ada beberapa orang yang merasa bahwa mereka haruslah lebih dahu- lu dicoba, dan harus membuktikan kepada Tuhan Allah bahwa mereka sudah dibaharui, sebelum mereka dapat menuntut berkatNya. Tetapi sekarang juga mereka dapat menuntut berkat Tuhan. Mereka harus mempunyai anugerah- Nya, Roh Kristus, untuk membantu kekurangan mereka itu, atau mereka sa- ma-sekali tidak dapat melawan kejahatan. Yesus suka kita datang padaNya sebagaimana adanya kita, dalam keadaan berdosa, tiada daya, dan hanya bergantung padaNya. Kita dapat datang padaNya dengan segala kelemahan kita, kebodohan kita, kita yang penuh dosa, dan menyembah di kakiNya dengan pertobatan. Adalah mulia bagiNya mengelilingi kita di dalam lengan kasihNya serta membebat luka-luka kita, membasuhkan kita dari segala kenajisan.
11 Disinilah ribuan orang gagal: mereka tidak percaya bahwa Yesus mengampuni mereka secara pribadi, perseorangan. Mereka tidak percaya firman Allah. Adalah merupakan kehormatan bagi semua orang yang menurut syarat-syarat itu mengetahui bagi diri mereka sendiri bahwa keampunan diberikan atas tiap-tiap dosa. Buangkanlah kecurigaan bahwa janji-janji Allah itu bukanlah untukmu. Janji-janji itu diberikan kepada setiap orang yang berdosa lalu bertobat. Kekuatan dan anugerah yang diadakan melalui Kristus akan di- hantarkan oleh malaikat-malaikat yang bertugas mengerjakannya bagi tiap-tiap jiwa yang percaya. Tiada orang yang begitu berdosa yang tidak akan mendapat kekuatan, kesucian dan kebenaran di dalam Yesus, yang telah mati bagi mereka. Yesus menanti hendak menanggalkan jubah mereka yang dinodai dosa lalu menukarkannya dengan jubah kebenaran yang putih; dipintaNya merek hidup bukannya mati.
12 Allah tidak memperlakukan kita sama seperti manusia fana memperlakukan sesamanya. FikiranNya adalah fikiran kemurahan, kasih, dan kasih penuh belas-kasihan. KataNya: “Hendaklah orang fasik itu meninggalkan ja- lannya dan orang jahat itu kepikirannya, dan hendaklah ia bertobat kepada Tuhan, maka dikasihankan Tuhan akan dia kelak, dan kepada Allah kita, karena Iapun mengampuni dengan limpahnya.” “Bahwa Aku menghapuskan segala kesalahanmu seperti awan dan segala dosamupun seperti kabut; hendaklah engkau kembali kepadaku, karena Akulah Penebusmu! ” Yes. 55:7; 44:22.
13 “Bahwa sesungguhnya tiada Aku suka akan kematian orang yang mati itu, demikianlah firman Tuhan Hua; sebab itu bertobatlah kamu dan hidup- lah! ” Yehezkiel 18:32. Setan selalu siap-sedia melarikan berkat janji-janji Allah. Dia ingin mencabut setiap percikan pengharapan dan setiap sinar terang dari dalam jiwa; tetapi janganlah ijinkan dia melakukan hal seperti ini. Janganlah mendengar-dengar sipenggoda, tetapi katakanlah seperti berikut: “Yesus sudah mati supaya saya bisa hidup. Dia mengasihi saya, dan tidak ingin melihat saya binasa. Saya mempunyai Bapa di surga yang penuh belas-kasihan; dan walaupun kasihNya telah saya sia-siakan; walaupun berkat-berkatNya yang telah diberikan padaku saya boroskan, saya akan bangun dan menghadap Bapaku seraya berseru: “Saya telah berbuat dosa terhadap sorga dan bapa; tiada lagi sahaya berlayak disebut anak bapa; jadikanlah sahaya seperti seorang dari antara orang gaji bapa.” Perumpamaan itu menceriterakan padamu bahwa orang yang telah sesat itupun diterima: “Tetapi sedang ia lagi jauh, bapanya sudah nampak dia, lalu jatuhlah kasihannya, serta berlarilah bapanya memeluk lehernya sambil mencium dia.”Lukas 15:18—20.
14 Sekalipun perumpamaan ini mengandung belas-kasihan yang pilu, belum juga mampu menyatakan kasih-sayang Allah Bapa yang tiada batasnya itu. Tuhan berkata melalui nabiNya: “Aku mengasihi akan dikau dengan kasih yang kekal, sebab itu Aku membujuk engkau dengan kemurahanku. ” Yermia 31:3. Manakala orang yang berdosa jauh dari rumah Bapa, memboroskan har- tanya dinegeri asing, hati Bapa rindu padanya; dan setiap kerinduan yang timbul di dalam jiwa kembali kepada Allah hanyalah karena permohonan Roh Kudus yang penuh bujukan, membujuk, memohon, menarik orang sesat itu kembali kepada hati kasih Allah Bapa.
15 Dengan janji-janji yang kaya yang dibentangkan di dalam Alkitab di hadapanmu, dapatkah engkau masih memberikan tempat keragu-raguan itu dalam hatimu? Dapatkah engkau mempercayai bahwa apabila orang yang berdosa itu rindu kembali, rindu meninggalkan dosa-dosanya, ditahan Allah supaya jangan datang bersujud di depan kakinya dalam pertobatan? Dijauh- kanlah kiranya pikiran-pikiran yang demikian! Tiada hal yang dapat mendu- kakan jiwamu sendiri daripada memikirkan pikiran yang demikian mengenai Allah Bapa kita yang di sorga itu. Dia membenci dosa, namun dia mengasihi orang yang berdosa, dan Dia telah memberikan Dirinya Sendiri di dalam wu- jud Kristus, supaya semua dapat diselamatkan dan memperoleh berkat-berkat yang kekal di dalam kerajaan kemurahan itu. Bahasa manakah yang lebih kuat dan lebih lembut lagi daripada yang digunakan dan dipilihNya menyatakan kasihNya terhadap kita? Dia berkata: “Bolehkah seorang perempuan melupakan anak penyusunya, sehingga tiada disayangkannya anak buah perutnya? Maka jikalau kiranya ia boleh melupakan dia sekalipun, niscaya tiada juga Aku melupakan dikau! ” Yesaya 49:15.
16 Pandanglah ke atas hai engkau yang bimbang dan gemetar, karena Yesus hidup memohon bagi kita. Terimakasih kepada Tuhan yang telah me- negaruniakan anakNya yang kekasih, dan pintalah supaya kematianNya itu tidak menjadi sia-sia bagimu. Roh Kudus mengundang engkau hari ini. Datanglah dengan segenap hati kepada Yesus, dan engkau dapat menuntut berkatNya.
17 Sementara engkau membaca janji-janji itu, ingatlah bahwa segala itu dinyatakan dengan kasih dan keharuan yang tiada bandingnya. Hati Allah yang penuh kasih itu menarik orang berdosa dengan kasih-karunianya yang tiada terkira banyaknya. “Yang di dalam Dia itu kita beroleh penebusan oleh sebab darahnya, yaitu keampunan segala dosa, menurut kelimpahan anugerahnya itu. ”Epesus 1 .7. Ya, hanya dengan percaya bahwa Allah adalah pcnolong- mu. Dia ingin mengembalikan ukuran moralNya di dalam manusia. Christ in His Sanctuary : Cleansed From the Record of Sin
In the great day of final award, the dead are to be “judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” Revelation 20:12. Then by virtue of the atoning blood of Christ, the sins of all the truly penitent will be blotted from the books of heaven. Thus the sanctuary will be freed, or cleansed, from the record of sin. In the type, this great work of atonement, or blotting out of sins, was represented by the services of the Day of Atonement—the cleansing of the earthly sanctuary, which was accomplished by the removal, by virtue of the blood of the sin offering, of the sins by which it had been polluted.
As in the final atonement the sins of the truly penitent are to be blotted from the records of heaven, no more to be remembered or come into mind, so in the type they were borne away into the wilderness, forever separated from the congregation.
Since Satan is the originator of sin, the direct instigator of all the sins that caused the death of the Son of God, justice demands that Satan shall suffer the final punishment. Christ's work for the redemption of men and the purification of the universe from sin will be closed by the removal of sin from the heavenly sanctuary and the placing of these sins upon Satan, who will bear the final penalty. So in the typical service, the yearly round of ministration closed with the purification of the sanctuary, and the confessing of the sins on the head of the scapegoat.
Thus in the ministration of the tabernacle, and of the temple that afterward took its place, the people were taught each day the great truths relative to Christ's death and ministration, and once each year their minds were carried forward to the closing events of the great controversy between Christ and Satan, the final purification of the universe from sin and sinners.—Patriarchs and Prophets, 343-358.
Christ Triumphant: Inner Character Revealed in Actions, March 30
His master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. But he refused, and said unto his master's wife ...: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? Genesis 39:7-9.
Joseph, in the providence of God, was deprived of his happy home and the teachings and example of his God-fearing father, and his lot was cast in a family of dark heathen. There his virtue was severely tested. It is always a critical period in a young man's life when he is separated from home influences and wise counsels and enters upon new scenes and trying tests....
God was with Joseph in his new home. He was in the path of duty, suffering wrong but not doing wrong. He therefore had the love and protection of God, for he carried his religious principles into everything he undertook. What a difference there was in Joseph's case and the case of young people who apparently force their way into the very field of the enemy, exposing themselves to the fierce assaults of Satan. Joseph suffered for righteousness’ sake, while the trials of others are of their own procuring. Joseph did not conceal his religion or manly piety to avoid persecution.
The Lord prospered Joseph, but in the midst of his prosperity came the darkest adversity. The wife of his master was a licentious woman, one who urged his steps to take hold on hell. Would Joseph yield his moral gold of character to the seductions of a corrupt woman? Would he remember that the eye of God was upon him?
Few temptations are more dangerous or more fatal to young men than the temptation of sensuality, and none, if yielded to, will prove so decidedly ruinous to soul and body for time and eternity. The welfare of his entire future was suspended upon the decision of a moment. Joseph calmly cast his eyes to heaven for help, slipped off his loose outer garment, leaving it in the hand of his tempter, and while his eye was lighted with determined resolve in the place of unholy passion, he exclaimed, “How can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” ...
True religion extends to all the thoughts of the mind, penetrating to all the secret thoughts of the heart, to all the motives of action, to the object and direction of the affections, to the whole framework of our lives. “Thou God seest me” will be the watchword, the guard of the life....
But Joseph was a Christian.... He entered into the troubles of his fellow prisoners. He was cheerful, for he was a Christian gentleman. God was preparing him under this discipline for a situation of great responsibility, honor, and usefulness, and he was willing to learn ... the lessons the Lord would teach him.—Letter 3, 1879 (Manuscript Releases 4:220-223).

Who Wrote the Bible, and Where?
The variety of authors, their locations, and their backgrounds provide a unique testimony that God works to communicate history and His message to people as culturally diverse as its intended audience.
What do the following texts tell us about the biblical writers and their backgrounds? (Exod. 2:10, Amos 7:14, Jer. 1:1-6, Dan. 6:1-5, Matt. 9:9, Phil. 3:3-6, Rev. 1:9).
The Bible was written by people from many different kinds of backgrounds and in various circumstances. Some were writing from palaces, others from prisons, some in exile, and still others during their missionary journeys to share the gospel. These men had different education and occupations. Some, like Moses, were destined to be kings or, like Daniel, to serve in high positions. Others were simple shepherds. Some were very young and others quite old. Despite these differences, they all had one thing in common: they were called by God and inspired by the Holy Spirit to write messages for His people, no matter when or where they lived.
Also, some of the writers were eyewitnesses to the events they recounted. Others made careful personal investigation of events or careful use of existing documents (Josh. 10:13, Luke 1:1-3). But all parts of the Bible are inspired (2 Tim. 3:16). This is the reason why Paul states that “whatever was written . . . was written for our instruction, so that through . . . the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope” (Rom. 15:4, NASB). The God who created human language enables chosen people to communicate inspired thought in a trustworthy and reliable manner in human words.
“God has been pleased to communicate His truth to the world by human agencies, and He Himself, by His Holy Spirit, qualified men and enabled them to do His work. He guided the mind in the selection of what to speak and what to write. The treasure was entrusted to earthen vessels, yet it is, none the less, from Heaven.”—Ellen G. White, Selected Messages, book 1, p. 26.
There were so many different writers, in so many different contexts, and yet the same God is revealed by them all. How does this amazing truth help confirm for us the veracity of God’s Word?
Homeward Bound: An Example of True Sanctification, March 30
Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.—1 John 3:3.
In the life of the disciple John true sanctification is exemplified. During the years of his close association with Christ, he was often warned and cautioned by the Saviour; and these reproofs he accepted. As the character of the Divine One was manifested to him, John saw his own deficiencies, and was humbled by the revelation. Day by day, in contrast with his own violent spirit, he beheld the tenderness and forbearance of Jesus, and heard His lessons of humility and patience. Day by day his heart was drawn out to Christ, until he lost sight of self in love for his Master. The power and tenderness, the majesty and meekness, the strength and patience, that he saw in the daily life of the Son of God, filled his soul with admiration. He yielded his resentful, ambitious temper to the molding power of Christ, and divine love wrought in him a transformation of character. . . .
Such transformation of character as is seen in the life of John is ever the result of communion with Christ. There may be marked defects in people’s characters, yet when they become true disciples of Christ, the power of divine grace transforms and sanctifies them. Beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, they are changed from glory to glory, until they are like Him whom they adore.
John was a teacher of holiness, and in his letters to the church he laid down unerring rules for the conduct of Christians. “Every man that hath this hope in him,” he wrote, “purifieth himself, even as He is pure.” “He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.” (1 John 3:3; 2:6.) He taught that Christians must be pure in heart and life. Never should they be satisfied with an empty profession. As God is holy in His sphere, so fallen human beings, through faith in Christ, are to be holy in their sphere.
“This is the will of God,” the apostle Paul wrote, “even your sanctification.” (1 Thessalonians 4:3.) The sanctification of the church is God’s object in all His dealings with His people. He has chosen them from eternity, that they might be holy. He gave His Son to die for them, that they might be sanctified through obedience to the truth, divested of all the littleness of self. From them He requires a personal work, a personal surrender.—The Acts of the Apostles, 557, 559.

Kepada Musa, Tuhan memperkenalkan jalan-Nya, yaitu apa yang Tuhan inginkan. Tetapi kenapa kepada bangsa Israel diperkenalkan perbuatan-Nya (mujizat-mujizat Tuhan)?
Karena orang Israel hanya ingin berkat-berkatnya saja, dan Tuhan tahu itu.. bukan apa yang Tuhan mau.
Apa pelajaran yang didapat dari sini?
*Janganlah kita hanya puas mencintai berkat-Nya saja, tapi kita harus mengerti apa keinginan Tuhan dan punya pengalaman pribadi dengan Tuhan seperti Musa.*
*Musa selalu bertanya apa yang Tuhan inginkan dan arah mana mereka harus berjalan dan disinilah letak ketergantungan Musa kepada Tuhan. Lewat pengalaman pribadinya dari hari ke hari bersama Tuhan. Musa turut dan setia.*
Disini titik balik perubahan hidup saya, yaitu *mengejar apa yang Tuhan mau. Meskipun susah karena bertentangan dengan keinginan daging dimana pergaulan saya sangat buruk tapi Tuhan memampukan. Meskipun banyak keraguan tapi dari hari ke hari saya melihat dan merasakan pertolongannya dan itu meyakinkan saya kalau saya tidak punya pilihan lain selain bergantung Pada-Nya.*
Doa saya akhir-akhir ini adalah "Tuhan, Kau tahu cara menggunakanku dengan baik."
Saya percaya *kalau kita mempunyai hubungan pribadi dengan Tuhan setiap hari, maka kita akan mengerti rencana-Nya.*

Dalam kehidupan murid Yohanes penyucian yang benar menjadi teladan. Selama tahun-tahun pergaulannya yang erat dengan Kristus, sudah sering ia diamarkan dan diberi peringatan oleh Juruselamat; dan amaran ini diterimanya. Sementara tabiat guru Ilahi itu dinyatakan kepadanya, Yohanes melihat kekurangan-kekurangannya sendiri, dan merendahkan diri oleh wahyu itu. Dari hari ke hari, berlawanan dengan rohnya sendiri yang keras, ia melihat kelemahlembutan dan kesabaran Yesus, dan mendengar pelajaran-pelajaran-Nya tentang kerendahan hati dan kesabaran. Dari hari ke hari hatinya tertarik kepada Kristus, sampai ia melupakan dirinya sendiri karena kasih akan Tuhannya. Kuasa dan kelemahlembutan, keagungan dan kerendahan hati, kekuatan dan kesabaran, yang dilihatnya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dari Anak Allah, memenuhi jiwanya dengan kekaguman. Ia menyerahkan perangainya yang pemarah dan ambisius itu kepada kuasa Kristus yang mengubahkan, dan kasih Ilahi mengerjakan di dalamnya suatu perubahan tabiat.
Perubahan tabiat seperti itu sebagaimana yang kelihatan dalam kehidupan Yohanes adalah selamanya sebagai hasil persekutuan dengan Kristus. Boleh jadi ada kekurangan-kekurangan yang nyata dalam tabiat seseorang, tetapi bila ia menjadi murid Kristus yang sejati, kuasa anugerah Ilahi mengubahkan dan menyucikan dia. Memandang seperti dalam kaca kernuliaan Tuhan, ia diubahkan dari kemuliaan kepada kemuliaan, sampai ia menjadi seperti Dia yang disembahnya.
Yohanes adalah guru kesucian, dan dalam suratnya kepada jemaat ia membentangkan peraturan-peraturan yang tidak salah untuk tingkah laku orang-orang Kristen. _“Setiap orang yang menaruh pengharapan itu kepada-Nya,”_ ia menulis, _“menyucikan diri sama seperti Dia yang adalah suci.”_ _“Barangsiapa mengatakan, bahwa ia ada di dalam Dia, ia wajib hidup sama seperti Kristus telah hidup”_ *(1 Yoh. 3: 3; 2: 6).* *la mengajarkan bahwa orang Kristen harus suci dalam hati dan kehidupan.* Ia tidak pernah merasa puas dengan pekerjaan yang kosong. The Living Word of God
The most important words spoken are often the last words a person utters. Moses, the writer of the first five foundational books of the Bible, sings a song to the people just before his death (Deut. 31:30-32:43).
Read Deuteronomy 32:45-47. How does Moses describe the Word of God and its power in the lives of the Hebrews on the verge of entering the Promised Land?
Among the last words of Moses is a strong exhortation. By setting their hearts on the words that God has spoken to them through him, Moses wanted to stress to the people that their focus should remain on God and His will for their lives. By teaching these words to their children, each generation would pass on God’s covenant plan of salvation. Notice that they were not to pick and choose which words, but were to observe or obey “all the words of this law” (Deut. 32:46).
At the end of earth’s history, God will have a people who remain faithful to all of Scripture, which means keeping the commandments of God and having the faith of Jesus (Rev. 12:17). These people will remain faithful to the teaching of the Bible, for it not only ensures a richer life on earth but an eternal destiny in the home Jesus prepares for us (John 14:1-3).
Read John 1:1-5, 14 and John 14:6. What do these texts teach us about Jesus and eternal life? How does the Word made flesh relate to the revelation and inspiration of Scripture?
Jesus is the focus and aim of all Scripture. His coming in the flesh as the Messiah was a fulfillment of the Old Testament promises. Because He lived, died, and lives again, we have not only the Scriptures confirmed but, even better, the great promise of eternal life in a whole new existence.
Read again Deuteronomy 32:47. How have you experienced for yourself the truth about how obedience to God’s Word is “not a vain thing” for you? Why is faith in God and obedience to His Word never in vain?
Steps to Christ: Chapter 5—Consecration (Bab 5 —Penyerahan Diri)
The whole heart must be yielded to God, or the change can never be wrought in us by which we are to be restored to His likeness. By nature we are alienated from God. The Holy Spirit describes our condition in such words as these: “Dead in trespasses and sins;” “the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint;” “no soundness in it.” We are held fast in the snare of Satan, “taken captive by him at his will.” Ephesians 2:1; Isaiah 1:5, 6; 2 Timothy 2:26. God desires to heal us, to set us free. But since this requires an entire transformation, a renewing of our whole nature, we must yield ourselves wholly to Him.
The warfare against self is the greatest battle that was ever fought. The yielding of self, surrendering all to the will of God, requires a struggle; but the soul must submit to God before it can be renewed in holiness.
The government of God is not, as Satan would make it appear, founded upon a blind submission, an unreasoning control. It appeals to the intellect and the conscience. “Come now, and let us reason together” is the Creator's invitation to the beings He has made. Isaiah 1:18. God does not force the will of His creatures. He cannot accept an homage that is not willingly and intelligently given. A mere forced submission would prevent all real development of mind or character; it would make man a mere automaton. Such is not the purpose of the Creator. He desires that man, the crowning work of His creative power, shall reach the highest possible development. He sets before us the height of blessing to which He desires to bring us through His grace. He invites us to give ourselves to Him, that He may work His will in us. It remains for us to choose whether we will be set free from the bondage of sin, to share the glorious liberty of the sons of God.
In giving ourselves to God, we must necessarily give up all that would separate us from Him. Hence the Saviour says, “Whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be My disciple.” Luke 14:33. Whatever shall draw away the heart from God must be given up. Mammon is the idol of many. The love of money, the desire for wealth, is the golden chain that binds them to Satan. Reputation and worldly honor are worshiped by another class. The life of selfish ease and freedom from responsibility is the idol of others. But these slavish bands must be broken. We cannot be half the Lord's and half the world's. We are not God's children unless we are such entirely.
There are those who profess to serve God, while they rely upon their own efforts to obey His law, to form a right character, and secure salvation. Their hearts are not moved by any deep sense of the love of Christ, but they seek to perform the duties of the Christian life as that which God requires of them in order to gain heaven. Such religion is worth nothing. When Christ dwells in the heart, the soul will be so filled with His love, with the joy of communion with Him, that it will cleave to Him; and in the contemplation of Him, self will be forgotten. Love to Christ will be the spring of action. Those who feel the constraining love of God, do not ask how little may be given to meet the requirements of God; they do not ask for the lowest standard, but aim at perfect conformity to the will of their Redeemer. With earnest desire they yield all and manifest an interest proportionate to the value of the object which they seek. A profession of Christ without this deep love is mere talk, dry formality, and heavy drudgery.
Do you feel that it is too great a sacrifice to yield all to Christ? Ask yourself the question, “What has Christ given for me?” The Son of God gave all—life and love and suffering—for our redemption. And can it be that we, the unworthy objects of so great love, will withhold our hearts from Him? Every moment of our lives we have been partakers of the blessings of His grace, and for this very reason we cannot fully realize the depths of ignorance and misery from which we have been saved. Can we look upon Him whom our sins have pierced, and yet be willing to do despite to all His love and sacrifice? In view of the infinite humiliation of the Lord of glory, shall we murmur because we can enter into life only through conflict and self-abasement?
The inquiry of many a proud heart is, “Why need I go in penitence and humiliation before I can have the assurance of my acceptance with God?” I point you to Christ. He was sinless, and, more than this, He was the Prince of heaven; but in man's behalf He became sin for the race. “He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” Isaiah 53:12.
But what do we give up, when we give all? A sin-polluted heart, for Jesus to purify, to cleanse by His own blood, and to save by His matchless love. And yet men think it hard to give up all! I am ashamed to hear it spoken of, ashamed to write it.
God does not require us to give up anything that it is for our best interest to retain. In all that He does, He has the well-being of His children in view. Would that all who have not chosen Christ might realize that He has something vastly better to offer them than they are seeking for themselves. Man is doing the greatest injury and injustice to his own soul when he thinks and acts contrary to the will of God. No real joy can be found in the path forbidden by Him who knows what is best and who plans for the good of His creatures. The path of transgression is the path of misery and destruction.
It is a mistake to entertain the thought that God is pleased to see His children suffer. All heaven is interested in the happiness of man. Our heavenly Father does not close the avenues of joy to any of His creatures. The divine requirements call upon us to shun those indulgences that would bring suffering and disappointment, that would close to us the door of happiness and heaven. The world's Redeemer accepts men as they are, with all their wants, imperfections, and weaknesses; and He will not only cleanse from sin and grant redemption through His blood, but will satisfy the heart-longing of all who consent to wear His yoke, to bear His burden. It is His purpose to impart peace and rest to all who come to Him for the bread of life. He requires us to perform only those duties that will lead our steps to heights of bliss to which the disobedient can never attain. The true, joyous life of the soul is to have Christ formed within, the hope of glory.
Many are inquiring, “How am I to make the surrender of myself to God?” You desire to give yourself to Him, but you are weak in moral power, in slavery to doubt, and controlled by the habits of your life of sin. Your promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand. You cannot control your thoughts, your impulses, your affections. The knowledge of your broken promises and forfeited pledges weakens your confidence in your own sincerity, and causes you to feel that God cannot accept you; but you need not despair. What you need to understand is the true force of the will. This is the governing power in the nature of man, the power of decision, or of choice. Everything depends on the right action of the will. The power of choice God has given to men; it is theirs to exercise. You cannot change your heart, you cannot of yourself give to God its affections; but you can choose to serve Him. You can give Him your will; He will then work in you to will and to do according to His good pleasure. Thus your whole nature will be brought under the control of the Spirit of Christ; your affections will be centered upon Him, your thoughts will be in harmony with Him.
Desires for goodness and holiness are right as far as they go; but if you stop here, they will avail nothing. Many will be lost while hoping and desiring to be Christians. They do not come to the point of yielding the will to God. They do not now choose to be Christians.
Through the right exercise of the will, an entire change may be made in your life. By yielding up your will to Christ, you ally yourself with the power that is above all principalities and powers. You will have strength from above to hold you steadfast, and thus through constant surrender to God you will be enabled to live the new life, even the life of faith.

Dengan keadaan kita ini kita cerai dari Allah. Roh Kudus melukiskan keadaan kita di dalam kalimat seperti beri-kut: “Kamupun dahulu sudah mati oleh sebab segala kesalahan dan dosamu” “segenap kepala itu sakit dan segenap hatipun letih-lesu’’”tiada padanya yang lagi baik. ” Epesus 2:1; Yesaya 1:5, 6. Kita telah dikungkung di dalam jerat Setan, “yang sedang menawan mereka itu akan melakukan kehendaknya. ” 2 Timotius 2:26. Allah ingin menyembuhkan kita, membuat kita bebas. Tetapi karena ini memerlukan perubahan yang menyeluruh, pembaharuan seluruh keadaan kita, kita harus menyerahkan segenap diri kita padaNya.
3 Peperangan melawan diri-sendiri adalah merupakan peperangan yang terbesar yang pernah diadakan. Penyerahan diri-sendiri, memasrahkan sepenuhnya kepada kehendak Allah, mengharuskan satu pergumulan; tetapi jiwa itu harus lebih dahulu diserahkan kepada Allah barulah dapat dibaharui di dalam kesucian.
4 Pemerintahan Allah bukanlah, seperti yang digambarkan Setan, didasarkan atas penyerahan yang buta, satu pengendalian yang tidak masuk di akal. Pemerintahan itu menarik pikiran dan hati nurani. “Marilah kamu, hendaklah kita berhukum bersama-sama ” adalah merupakan undangan Khalik Pencipta kepada mahluk-mahluk ciptaanNya. Yesaya 1:18. Allah tidak memaksa ke- hendak mahluk ciptaanNya. Tuhan tidak mau menerima perbaktian yang diberikan dengan pikiran dan kemauan yang tidak rela. Sebuah penyerahan yang terpaksa akan menghalangi semua pertumbuhan pikiran maupun tabiat; penyerahan yang demikian hanyalah membuat seseorang seperti tidak mem- punyai pikiran. Bukan demikianlah yang dimaksud Khalik Pencipta. Tuhan Allah ingin supaya manusia itu, mahluk ciptaanNya yang mulia, akan mencapai pertumbuhan yang paling penting yang dapat dicapainya. Dia menaruh di hadapan kita puncak kemurahan, ketempat mana Ia ingin membawa kita melalui karuniaNya. Dia mengundang kita supaya memasrahkan diri kita ke- padaNya, supaya Dia dapat mengerjakan kehendakNya di dalam kita. Terserah kepada kitalah memilih apakah kita mau dilepaskan dari rantai dosa, dan mendapat bagian dalam kebebasan yang mulia dengan anak-anak Allah.
5 Dalam menyerahkan diri kita sendiri kepada Allah, kita harus me- nanggalkan semua hal-hal yang memisahkan kita daripadaNya. Oleh karena itu Juruselamat berkata: “Sedemikian juga barang siapa diantara kamu, yang tiada meninggalkan segala sesuatu yang dipunyainya, tiada dapat menjadi muridKu.” Lukas 14:33. Apapun yang menjauhkan hati dari Tuhan harus dienyahkan. Banyak orang yang berilahkan mammon. Cinta uang, ingin kekayaan, adalah rantai emas yang mengikat mereka pada Setan. Golongan lain pula berilahkan kemuliaan duniawi. Hidup menyenang-nyenangkan diri sendiri serta bebas dari tanggung-jawab adalah berhala bagi orang lain juga. Tetapi rantai yang memperbudak ini harus diretas. Kita tidak boleh setengah-setengah milik Allah dan setengah-setengah milik dunia. Kita bukanlah anak-aank Allah- kecuali kita berserah diri sepenuhnya.
6 Banyak orang yang mengaku menyembah Allah padahal mereka bergantung atas usaha-usaha mereka sendiri untuk menurut hukumNya, untuk membentuk sebuah tabiat yang benar, dan untuk mendapatkan keselamatannya. Hati mereka bukannya digerakkan oleh perasaan yang mendalam akan kasih Kristus, melainkan mereka berusaha membentuk tanggungjawab-tang- gungjawab hidup Kristen sebagaimana mana yang diwajibkan Allah bagi mereka dalam rangka memperoleh surga. Agama yang demikian tiada gunanya. Apabila Kristus berdiam di dalam hati, maka jiwa akan dipenuhi kasihNya, dengan hubungan yang menggembirakan dengan dia, sehingga jiwa akan berpaut padaNya; dan di dalam merenung-renungkan Dia, diri sendiri haruslahl dilupakan. Kasih kepada Kristus akan menjadi sumber pancaran perbuatan yang baik. Barangsiapa yang merasakan kasih Allah tidak akan menanyakan betapa kecilkah yang diberikan untuk memenuhi syarat-syarat tuntutan Allah, mereka tidak akan meminta ukuran yang rendah, melainkan bertujuan menuju kesempurnaan sesuai dengan kehendak Penebusnya. Dengan kerinduan yang sungguh-sungguh mereka memasrahkan semuanya dan menyatakan perhatian yang seimbang terhadap nilai benda yang mereka cari: Mengaku pengikut Kristus tanpa kasih mendalam seperti ini hanyalah omongkosong belaka, formalitas yang kering serta pekerjaan yang amat hina.
7 Apakah engkau merasa penyerahan yang sepenuhnya kepada Kristus terlalu berat? Tanyalah kepada dirimu sendiri pertanyaan seperti berikut: “Apakah yang telah diberikan Kristus kepadaku?” Anak Allah itu telah memasrahkan semuanya — kasih dan hidup, serta penderitaan — demi untuk menebus kita. Dan sampaikah hati kita, mahluk yang hina dengan kasih yang demikian besar, menjauhkan hati kita daripadaNya? Setiap saat dari kehidupan kita, kita turut ambil bagian dalam karunia berkat-berkatnya, dan oleh karena itulah kita masih betul-betul belum menyadari dalamnya kebodohan dan kesengsaraan dari tempat mana kita telah diselamatkan. Dapatkah kita memandang Dia yang telah ditikam karena dosa-dosa kita, tapi menghinakan kasih dan pengorbananNya yang begitu besar? Melihat Tuhan yang penuh ke- muliaan itu merendahkan diriNya, patutkah kita bersungut-sungut karena kita dapat memasuki kehidupan itu hanya melalui peperangan dan merendahkan diri?
8 Banyak orang yang berhati sombong bertanya: “Apa perlunya saya bertobat dan merendahkan diri sebelum saya tahu dengan pasti bahwa Tuhan akan menerima saya?” Saya arahkan engkau kepada Kristus. Dia tiada berdosa sama-sekali, dan lebih daripada ini, Dia adalah Putera Allah; tetapi demi ke-pentingan manusia Dia menjadi dosa bagi umat manusia. “Iapun dibilang dengan orang durhaka dan sudah ditanggungnya dosa orang banyak dan sudah dipintanya doa akan orang durhaka.’’Yesaya 53:12.
9 Tetapi apakah yang kita korbankan, apabila kita menyerahkan semuanya? — Hati yang telah dikotori dosa supaya disucikan Yesus, dibasuhkan oleh darahNya sendiri, serta untuk diselamatkan dengan kasihNya yang tiada taranya. Namun orang masih mengira berat untuk menyerahkan semuanya itu! Saya merasa malu mendengar orang mengatakan demikian, malu pula menuliskannya.
10 Allah tidak mengharuskan kita menyerahkan segala sesuatu yang terbaik disimpan bagi keperluan kita sendiri. Di dalam segala sesuatu yang di- lalukanNya, Dia selalu mengingat kebajikan anak-anakNya. Betapa sekiranya- semua orang yang belum memilih Kristus itu dapat menyadari bahwa Dia mempunyai sesuatu yang jauh lebih baik untuk diserahkan kepada mereka daripada yang mereka cari untuk diri mereka sendiri. Manusia mengerjakan kejahatan dan kecelakaan yang terbesar bagi jiwanya sendiri apabila dia berpikir dan bertindak melawan kehendak Allah. Tiada kegembiraan sejati yang di-dapat pada jalan yang dilarang oleh Dia yang mengetahui apa yang terbaik mengikhtiarkan kebajikan bagi mahluk ciptaanNya. Jalan pelanggaran adalah jalan kesengsaraan dan kebinasaan.
11 Salahlah anggapan bahwa Tuhan Allah senang melihat anak-anakNya menderita sengsara. Semua penghuni surga menaruh perhatian terhadap kebahagiaan manusia. Bapa kita yang di surga tidak menutup saluran kegembiraan mahluk ciptaanNya. Tuntutan-tuntutan ilahi meminta kita supaya menjauhkan diri dari segala kemanjaan yang akan membawa sengsara dan kekecewaan, yang akan mengatupkan pintu kebahagiaan dan surga bagi kita. Penebus dunia menerima manusia itu sebagaimana adanya, dan dengan segala kekurang- an-kekurangan mereka, ketidak-sempurnaan mereka, kelemahan-kelemahannya; dan Dia bukan saja membasuhkan dari dosa serta memberi tebusan melalui Darahnya, melainkan akan memuaskan kerinduan hati semua orang yang mau menanggung kukNya, menanggung bebanNya. MaksudNya ialah memberikan perdamaian dan sentosa kepada semua orang yang datang kepadaNya meminta roti hidup. Dia menuntut kita supaya mengeijakan hanya tanggung- jawab-tanggungjawab yang akan menuntun langkah-langkah kaki kita menu - ju kebahagiaan yang lebih tinggi yang tidak dapat diperoleh orang-orang yang durhaka. Kehidupan jiwa yang benar dan menggembirakan ialah dengan memperoleh Kristus di dalam hati, pengharapan kemuliaan itu.
12 Banyak orang yang bertanya: “Bagaimanakah saya dapat memasrahkan diri saya sepenuhnya kepada Tuhan Allah?” Engkau ingin memasrahkan dirimu sendiri kepada Allah tetapi engkau lemah dalam kuasa moral, dikungkung kekuatiran, serta dikendalikan oleh kebiasaan-kebiasaan hidupmu yang penuh dosa. Janji-janji dan segala keputusan hatimu adalah bagaikan tali yang terbuat dari pasir. Engkau tidak mampu menguasai pikiran-pikiranmu, dorongan-dorongan hatimu, dan keinginan-keinginanmu. Sadar akan janji-janji yang tidak dapat kau tepati serta tekad yang hilang begitu saja melemahkan keyakinanmu di dalam ketulusan hatimu, menyebabkan engkau merasa bahwa Allah tidak dapat menerima engkau; tetapi kau tidak perlu putus asa. Apa yang perlu kau pahami ialah tenaga kemauan yang sejati. Inilah kuasa yang memerintahkan di dalam tabiat manusia, kuasa mengambil keputusan, atau kuasa memilih. Segala sesuatu tergantung atas perbuatan kemauan yang benar. Kuasa memilih Allah telah diberikan kepada manusia; inilah yang harus digunakan manusia. Engkau tidak dapat mengubah hatimu, dengan dirimu sendiri engkau tidak dapat memberikan kepada Allah segala keinginan-keinginan hati itu; tetapi engkau dapat memilih melayani Dia. Engkau dapat memberikan kemauan padaNya, lalu dia akan bekerja di dalam engkau dan mengerjakannya semua sesuai dengan keridlaanNya. Dengan demikian semua tabiatmu akan dibawa kebawa pimpinan Roh Kristus; keinginan-keinginanmu akan dipusatkan padaNya, pikiran-pikiranmu akan setuju dengan Dia.
13 Kerinduan-kerinduan akan kebajikan dan kesucian memang baik ada- nya; tetapi jika engkau berhenti sampai disitu saja, maka tiadalah gunanya. Banyak orang yang hilang sementara berharap dan ingin menjadi orang Kristen. Mereka tidak sampai pada titik penyerahan kemauan kepada Allah. Mereka tidak memilih sekarang juga menjadi orang-orang Kristen.
14 Dengan menggunakan kemauan dengan benar, maka perubahan yang menyeluruh akan terjadi di dalam kehidupanmu. Dengan menyerahkan segenap kemauanmu kepada kehendak Kristus, engkau menghubungkan dirimu sendiri dengan kuasa yang berada di atas segala kuasa dan penguasa. Engkau akan mendapat kekuatan dari atas yang menahan engkau supaya teguh, dan melalui penyerahan yang tetap kepada Tuhan Allah engkau sanggup menghidupkan kehidupan yang baru, yaitu hidup di dalam iman.
